First and foremost, it’s clear that this book is tailored for an American audience. Being based in the UK, certain sections—particularly those discussing welfare programs and additional support systems—didn’t apply to me. While I’m confident the advice is solid for those in the U.S., I found myself skipping over these parts as they weren’t relevant to my situation.
That said, the remainder of the book was both informative and insightful, just as I’d anticipated. It offers a comprehensive understanding of what parents might experience when raising a child with ASD. The strategies provided for managing behaviors and equipping children with tools to minimize destructive or negative actions are practical and grounded in real-world application.
One aspect I particularly appreciated was the emphasis on routines and the importance of consistency in daily life. The book also delves into effective communication techniques, which are crucial for fostering understanding and reducing frustrations for both the child and the parent.
While some content was U.S.-centric, the core principles and strategies are universally applicable, making it a valuable resource for parents navigating the challenges of raising a child on the autism spectrum.
